The McDonnagh Chronicles

Holly Ryan, Columbia University. 1986.

Here I have collected, as a matter of research, the journals of Connor McDonnagh. It is my belief that these histories shed new light on the adventurer’s final years before his disappearance in nineteen-hundred.
For the unfamiliar, Connor McDonnagh began as a history researcher at Oxford University, specialising in Arcanic history (a subject of niche popularity in his time). What made McDonnagh stand out among his peers was his strong belief in the Arcane. He had made a name for himself by taking part in multiple high-risk expeditions for his research. As such, these journals describe many fantastical elements. While much of the content seems based in truth, I cannot say with certainty whether or not these journals were intended to be read as fact or fiction.
I have split these journals into two volumes: the first document McDonnagh’s involvement in the eighteen ninety-five incident at Verona Mansion. While the second takes place over the five years leading up to his disappearance, and describes a desperate but ultimately fruitless attempt to save the Arcane from extinction.

The McDonnagh Chronicles are a series of short stories set in an alternate 19th century. Once, this world was filled with magic, with creatures of all shapes and sizes. Now, the magic is all but reduced to myth and legend.
Connor McDonnagh is an adventurer and Arcanic Researcher, a specialist in preserving the history of the Arcane. His work, however, often brings him face-to-face with the Arcane that hasn’t yet fallen to history.
The McDonnagh Chronicles are research notes turned into a novel, published for any reader interested in the esoteric history of Victorian Arcanic researchers. The novel is most popular with young Arcanics, the very few that still remain.

Currently, I am still writing this series. As I complete stories, I will upload them here. To be notified of each upload, subscribe below!

  • Holly Ryan, Columbia University. 1986. I debated for some time where to include this journal entry, before settling on including it as the first entry in this volume. While this entry takes place several months before the rest of this story, I do believe that it is the most relevant here, as I believe will…
